Building Under Construction Collapses And Three People Escape Death In Lagos

Following the collapse of a three-story building under construction on Agarawu Street, off of Aroloya Central Mosque, in Idumota, Lagos, on Sunday, three construction workers narrowly escaped death.

Around 2:00 p.m., the building, which was surrounded by three other two-story structures, is said to have collapsed while work was being done on the second level.

Concrete crashed into a sitting room nearby, according to eyewitnesses, and the falling debris narrowly missed the nearby residents.

Additionally, worshippers in the nearby mosque were said to have escaped unharmed. ShehuToheeb, a local, was shocked by the incident and stated that the structure of the building appeared to be sound.

The workers were getting ready to begin the third deck. The three construction workers were rescued alive, which is a good thing.

We’re grateful no one was hurt, especially as many people live around the area, though most were away on Sunday,” he said.

In its preliminary report, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) stated that the immediate cause of the collapse had not yet been identified.

It was noted that additional investigations would be carried out to ascertain the underlying and immediate causes. In order to gather building materials for laboratory analysis, representatives of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) were on the scene.

Personnel from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) were also on-site to clear the debris.

When contacted, LASBCA spokesperson AdemuyiwaAdu said he could not speak on the incident at the moment.
