David Umahi, Minister of Works, reopens the Independence Bridge for residents of Lagos

 The Independence Bridge on Victoria Island in Lagos has been reopened by Dave Umahi, Minister of Works

Following the massive traffic congestion that engulfed the Ikoyi neighborhood of Lagos, the Minister had previously ordered the bridge to be reopened immediately.

The Minister drove first on the bridge in an online video before it was officially reopened to Lagosians. Umahi confirmed to journalists in Lagos on April 4 that the bridge's construction will officially begin in three weeks. The Works Minister stated to journalists following the bridge's reopening: “For his message, we must be extremely, extremely grateful to God Almighty. We exercised through the night, and this has been restored. If you asked me how it came about, I would say that God's wisdom and grace were to blame.

 You should be aware that God alone is responsible for how it occurred. However, both the bridge and the road that we repaired are 100% intact. Therefore, our subsequent actions will have a long-term impact. However, there is nothing wrong with this repair. He then said that a more permanent structure would be put in place after three weeks, explaining;

 Because we do not know the integrity of the pipes that carry the apartment, we will be performing more permanent work after three weeks. so that we don't burden the apartment at all.

However, it will continue to press it down because the load that we will use will be a pin load. Therefore, we will always be thankful to God. We also appreciate Mr. a president who, as a matter of fact, has a profound awareness of the plight of the populace. You know, whenever it pains Nigerians, the President is there to relieve, you know, such pain.

 Umahi stated, "The President saw the hardship Nigerians were experiencing as a result of the sudden closure of this Independence Bridge for emergency rehabilitation." The sudden suspension of the Independence Bridge in the Falomo area for repairs and maintenance left Lagosians stranded for hours on Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday, April 3.
