I was body-shamed while dating my husband – Naeto C’s wife

 

Nicole Chikwe, wife of Nigerian rapper Naeto C, has opened up about the harsh online criticism she faced when their relationship became public 14 years ago.

 Speaking on a podcast, Nicole revealed that she was subjected to derogatory remarks, with some people comparing her to animals and claiming she wasn’t good enough for the music star.

 She said the intense backlash severely affected her mental health, shattered her self-esteem, and left her feeling deeply insecure.

 Chikwe said: “When our relationship went public, it was a whole thing.  I received a lot of vitroil when it came out.  And the rhetoric was that I wasn't good enough for everyone's love for Naeto C, that he could do so much better than her, and that she wasn't beautiful and was so ugly. I was likened to a wide variety of animals. When this came out, a lot of mean comments were made about me. It was crazy.  It was unrelenting and all over social media. 

 “Now it’s 14 years later and a lot of us have a lot more information regarding managing mental healths.  Being on the blog at the time felt like the end of your life because it was new. It severely hampered the self-assurance I had always possessed as a child. It definitely made me feel very uneasy. But I was careful because I didn’t want Naeto to feel like I couldn’t handle stuffs.  It was really really tough.  We got married eventually, and it feels like validation all over again.
