Just in: Another attack by suspected herdsmen in Benue kills a guard

At the Otobi Dam in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, a security guard was reportedly murdered late on Friday night by suspected herdsmen.

The most recent attack follows a string of deadly incidents that occurred in the Otukpo axis in recent weeks. Angbo Kennedy, a member of the Benue State House of Assembly who represents the Otukpo/Akpa State Constituency, confirmed the most recent attack and said that immediate action was required to stop the bloodshed. He stated, "This is becoming too much; herdsmen killed a guard this evening at the Otobi dam." Please let’s watch out for each other.

We must use our own resources. The guard who was killed has not been officially identified as of the time this report was written, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Residents are requesting that security agencies and the government of Benue State intensify surveillance and send more personnel to rural flashpoints, particularly in the vicinity of strategic infrastructure like the Otobi Dam. Similar killings occurred earlier this year in the Otukpo LGA's Okpomaju, Okete, and Asa settlements, resulting in several deaths and displaced individuals. Yesterday, gunmen took control of a fully loaded Benue Links bus, killing two people and kidnapping 13 others.
