Okonkwo withdraws from APC primaries

A frontline aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Prof.  Obiora Okonkwo has withdrawn from the party primaries that are currently taking place on Saturday at the Women Development Centre in Awka.

After Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma earlier withdrew from the race, Okonkwo also withdrew. The four remaining APC candidates Nicholas Ukachukwu, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu are currently competing for the party's ticket on Saturday following Okonkwo's withdrawal from the race.

Dated April 5, his resignation letter read, "Withdrawal from All Progressives Congress gubernatorial primary election." "Dear Anambrarian friends and supporters, “After a careful evaluation and reflection on the current state of the All Progressives Congress primary election process in Anambra State, | have decided to withdraw my aspiration for the party’s governorship ticket.

Due to a number of developments that are at odds with my principles and values, I had to make the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the race. Among other things, the project is not worth putting my supporters' lives at risk. “However, I will continue to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Anambra State and our nation, Nigeria, because my passion for public service remains strong.

"I also continue to contribute in any way I can to President Bola Tinubu's development programs and our nation's economic growth for the benefit of our fellow citizens." “I value the trust and support I have received from my political associates, supporters, and stakeholders in the APC and elsewhere. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many dedicated and passionate Anambrarians. Your support has meant a lot to me. “Above all else, may Anambra succeed for its future generations.”
