The UK Independent reports that Usain Bolt's father, Wellesley Bolt, the fastest man alive, has passed away at the age of 68.
After a prolonged illness, the father of three passed away on Monday in Jamaica.
Together with his wife Jennifer, Wellesley operated a grocery store and kept a low profile. However, he had a significant impact on Usain's career, which saw him win eight Olympic gold medals.
"My deepest and most sincere condolences go out to Usain Bolt and his beloved mother, Mrs. Jennifer Bolt and the Bolt family as a whole following the death of their patriarch, Mr. Bolt Wellesley. “Mr. Bolt was a strong, quiet force behind one of Jamaica's greatest sons and the father of a global icon. Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, wrote on social media, "His presence, support, and guidance helped to shape a legacy that continues to inspire the world." His wife Jennifer and three children, Usain, Sadiki, and Christine Bolt Hylton, survive Wellesley.
