“Wike and Fubara Turned Their Backs on Us Rivers Woman Speaks Out on Betrayal and Broken Promises”

Byline:

As narrated by Chibuike Amaech, one of the Rivers State protest coordinators. Compiled by Mama Oke, Contributor – DOBBlog.

Once seen as men of the people, Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara have now become a symbol of betrayal to many in Rivers State. From bold speeches and fiery protests, Wike especially built his name on being a defender of the masses. But now, those same people feel used and abandoned.

Chibuike Amaech, a protest coordinator during the 2025 Port Harcourt demonstrations, shared with DOBBlog what many have been afraid to say out loud:

Wike and Fubara are not men of their word. They came from the people, stood with us during campaigns, and made big promises to change the system. But once they got into power especially Wike everything changed. He disappeared into the same corrupt system he used to fight. Now we know the truth: he was only fighting for himself.”

Wike now rides in convoys, makes grand speeches, and moves like the country belongs to him. The humility is gone, replaced by arrogance and unchecked power.

“He works only for his personal gain and his family’s benefit,” Chibuike said. “He has built a dynasty, not a legacy. He once said, ‘I will always stand with my people.’ That was a lie. Wike, Fubara, even Tinubu they all stand on our necks now.”

What many now call a “quiet betrayal” is the growing belief that Wike used public anger as a ladder and then kicked it away. His once defiant voice has turned silent, even as Nigerians suffer under rising hardship, insecurity, and failed promises.

Men, women, and youth who once carried Wike and Fubara on their shoulders now feel left behind.

Sometimes I ask myself, maybe Nigerians aren’t suffering maybe it’s just me. Because how can we all be going through this kind of pain, and still allow people like Wike to walk freely, acting like heroes?” Chibuike asked bitterly.

Wike and Fubara were once symbols of hope now they are part of the same failed system they once promised to fight.

Wike’s recent behavior shows no regard for public voices. He makes decisions without consulting the people, while ignoring the cries of civil servants, students, and entire communities.

The people now feel powerless. The government no longer answers to them instead, it rules over them.
